A misnomer to many launching a new website is how or more specifically when a website will be indexed (found) by the search engines. Many assume just by placing a site out on the web it guarantees your site will be found. That is not the case.
In fact Google™ states on their website submission page – ” We add and update new sites to our index each time we crawl the web, and we invite you to submit your URL here. We do not add all submitted URLs to our index, and we cannot make any predictions or guarantees about when or if they will appear.”
Yes that’s right, there is no guarantee that your site will even be indexed. So now what? Well, I can tell you from first hand experience the search engines love blogs and tend to index them faster and more frequently. This site, Mid Columbia Webs is run with WordPress which is a blogging platform.
I registered the domain www.midcolumbiawebs.com on October 21, 2008. I don’t remember the exact date I set up the site on WordPress but I can say it was within a few days. Below is a screen shot of when Google first indexed this site.

Within FOUR days of registering my domain and uploading WordPress my website was indexed in Google. I have seen websites that after six months had not been indexed.
There is no guarantee you will receive results such as this, in fact even though my site has been indexed, I still have more work to do to compete for the keywords I am interested in targeting. However by running your website on WordPress you will certainly increase the likelihood of being indexed more quickly.
